Home-Made Lemonade

Nothing says summer quite like a cold glass of lemonade. Refreshing and bursting with sunshine, it’s the perfect way to cool off and enjoy the season.

Home-Made Lemonade

Makes 10 cups

1 3/4 cups granulated sugar

1 cup water

9 medium lemons or more as needed (can use 10 limes as substitute)

7 cups iced cold water

Ice as needed

Combine sugar with 1 cup of water in a saucepan. Stir to dissolve sugar while mixture comes to a boil. As sugar dissolves, turn off heat and set aside to let mixture cool to room temperature.

Roll lemons on counter to soften. Cut each lemon in half, crosswise, and squeeze lemon juice into a measuring cup (can add lemon pulp to juice), but discard seeds. Juice 1 1/2 cups fresh lemon juice + pulp.

Pour 7 cups iced cold water into a pitcher. Stir in lemon juice and pulp, then, add simple sugar mixture to taste. Add ice

**For additional flavor, nutrients and a pop of color can try adding any of the following:

Lemon, lime, or orange slices

Fresh strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries

Pureed frozen berries

Fresh pomegranate seeds

Splash of cranberry, tart cherry or pomegranate juice

Fresh basil or mint

Freshly grated ginger
